Squaw Valley USA, CA

Real life intervened this week, so I’ve only got one new 3dSkiMap but it’s a doozy. Squaw Valley is such a sprawling ski area, it took 6 views to get it all in.
This week I also made a first stab at displaying a GPS track from a skier, but it didn’t turn out so hot. [...]

Partnerships

Spoke with Marcus Needham of Mountain Dynamics today. We’ll be exploring possible synergies between our two efforts. For starters, he’s sent me a GPS track of a ski day at Park City, UT. Shouldn’t be too hard to write something to convert that to VRML that I can display on my maps.
Also I’ve been communicating [...]

Added Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming

The Jackson Hole map is a good illustration of the problem inherent in making a map of someplace you’ve never been to. I’m going to need some help with that Headwall. I can sort of tell a little from the official trail map. The best thing would be to have GPS tracks of people who [...]

Added an RSS Feed for the Map List

Actually, I did that yesterday but forgot to blog it. Now as I add new maps you can get the updated list through rss.

Added Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, CO

I don’t feel I know it well enough to call it A-Basin.

Schwing!

I posted to Teton Gravity Research Forums today, looking for trouble, and trouble is what I got.

And of course, I had been experimenting with some server settings which made it impossible for people to load the VRML files, and then I made a slight change to my front page which broke the links to all [...]

Okemo, VT

Unfortunately, the latest 1 meter USGS orthophoto from Seamless was taken before Jackson Gore Peak was developed. Google Earth shows it, but that’s a Landsat image with 30 meter resolution at best.
I know what you’re thinking: “Really? Okemo?” Yeah, but apparently there’s some kind of thing going on between Okemo and Killington, so I figured [...]

Oh, That’s Just Great

I put the wrong url in my reddit button, so now my 10 little up votes go back to zero. I was wondering why it wasn’t incrementing on the reddit site. D’oh!

Added Killington and Pico Ski Resorts, Vermont and Brighton Resort, Utah

My first non-western ski areas. Killington is a somewhat sprawling resort, and in the Overview I left out some of the sprawl to focus on the main area, but you can still see it in the Overhead shot, or in the VRML.
Pico is a smaller resort just next door to Killington.
Brighton is a somewhat small [...]
