Finally I finished Snowbird, UT. Snowbird is big and complex, as are Alta and Park City. The biggest problem is one shared by Jackson Hole - how to show defined trails along with all the treeless areas and skiable areas with trees. For these kind of areas I have to make several levels of transparency, and several masks to get it to look right. Just a mass of undifferentiated colored area is difficult to look at, it’s hard to see what really matters. That’s going to be a problem when I start doing ski areas in places like the Alps.
But these maps of Alta, Snowbird, and Park City are really beautiful. I don’t know if it’s me getting better at it, or if there’s something different about those ski areas.
